We are growing, and we are creating the position of Operations Manager to own and run the operational side of the business. The role covers everything between a signed order and a completed, signed-off project — and the stores, equipment, suppliers, samples and systems that sit behind every job. You’ll report directly to the Managing Director.

What you’ll own

• Plan and programme all live projects — 2–3 week look-aheads and a complete pre-start pack for every job
• Allocate and brief installation teams and subcontractors; onboard new operatives and run inductions and toolbox talks
• Run the stores and vehicle stock, maintain the plant and equipment register, and manage hire
• Source and order materials against the estimate; organise deliveries, storage and site logistics
• Enforce hold points, manage snagging to closure and obtain client sign-off and handover on every project
• Track project costs against the estimate and report budget vs actual weekly; identify and record variations before the work is done
• Keep RAMS, checklists, quality records and handover packs complete on the company project system
• Act as day-to-day contact for clients, main contractors and site teams during delivery
• Support new product development and trials, organise the sample library and despatch of samples, and help with the wider running of the business

About you

• At least three years running project delivery for a specialist subcontractor or fit-out contractor — flooring, screed, resin, microcement or polished concrete strongly preferred
• Experience on Tier 1 or Tier 2 main-contractor sites
• Commercially aware, well organised, calm under pressure and direct
• Full UK driving licence and own vehicle (mileage paid at HMRC rates)
• CSCS and SMSTS or SSSTS, or willing to obtain before starting
• Confident with Microsoft Teams, cloud-based project tools and photo reporting

• £45,000 base salary plus a performance bonus, paid quarterly against delivered margin, on-time handover, operational standards and quality
• A senior role with genuine ownership, reporting directly to the Managing Director

Core technical skill

• Surface preparation: cleaning, priming and levelling different substrates (concrete, screeds, etc.)
• Application: confident with trowels, rollers and spatulas to apply microcement in thin, even layers
• Layering & timing: knowing when and how to apply each layer — base coat, finish coat, sealers — respecting drying and curing times
• Sanding & polishing: sanding between layers for a smooth, seamless finish
• Sealing & waterproofing: applying protective sealants for durability and moisture resistance

Design & aesthetic sense

• Texture creation: producing finishes from smooth and rustic to matte and glossy, to brief
• Colour matching: understanding pigments and how to mix or layer colours for custom effects
• Attention to detail: precision on edges, corners and transitions between surfaces

Professional & soft skills

• Problem solving: adapting techniques to different surfaces and conditions
• Client communication: explaining options, managing expectations and offering design advice
• Time management: coordinating drying times and phases to meet deadlines
• Physical stamina: hands-on work requiring endurance and dexterity

Technical & practical skills

• Machine operation: proficient with grinding machines, polishing wheels, buffers and handheld tools
• Tool handling: skilled use of calipers, micrometers and hand tools to measure and shape accurately
• Surface finishing: achieving smooth, matte or glossy finishes across materials
• Quality control: inspecting and testing surfaces against specification
• Equipment maintenance: routine checks and repairs to keep tools and machines in top condition
• Surface levelling and preparation: removing coatings, adhesives and imperfections
• Material knowledge: applying densifiers, sealers and protective coatings to enhance durability
• Polishing techniques: confident with both dry and wet systems

Problem-solving skills

• Critical thinking: identifying flaws and adjusting technique on the fly
• Operations monitoring: watching gauges and indicators to ensure machines run correctly
• Judgment: choosing the right tools, speeds and abrasives for each job

• Proven experience in concrete grinding and polishing (1–3 years preferred)

• Mixing: correct ratios and techniques for consistent, durable batches
• Expansion joints: installing joints to prevent temperature cracking
• Tool proficiency: confident with hand tools (saws, drills, jackhammers) and finishing equipment
